Well, obviously the portable version has no installer, so you can only use it in portable mode. It is just a reminder in case you downloaded the wrong version or expected the portable version to work in multi-user environments (you need an install for this). Why is it "sink or swim"? The ...

Ok, then I misinterpretatet the message. From what I have read it says: "HxD was not installed and therefore it will use the portable mode. Press OK to create the INI file." That doesn't sounds like an automatic detection or that the user can choose which version to use. It's sink or swim.

Difference: HxD installed vs. portable?

Hi, I noticed that instead of the good old zip file for manual installation there is only the portable version which always asks on startup if it should make itself a portable installation. I don't' like installer and prefer usually for upgrading the "unzip and replace" method. Hence I cho...

Wont add: HxD: Accessing \Device\PhysicalMemory

The already implemented feature of viewing and editing the memory of other processes guides me to an similar feature: Reading (and may be writing) the \Device\PhysicalMemory. It can be done by using CreateFile() similar to accessing HDD-discs and volumes. I know the is a very special feature but it ...

Done: HxD: Search history for find&replace dialog

Would it be possible to modify the search and the replace dialog to remember the last five to ten search-strings (even beyond the termination of HxD)?

Done: HxD: copy to clipboard as hex-String

 I would suggest a possibility to copy a hex-block (as it can be seen on the left side of the editor) to clipboard - without spaces and line breaks.

 My purpose is to paste this string in to the find&replace dialog for a "hex-values" search.

Fixed: HxD: Search&Replace does not replace all occurren

Hi, I just found a little bug in HxD's search and replace algorithm. I tried to delete the linebreaks from a textfile with about hundert lines and in each line one ascii char. I used search&replaxe in hex data mode with "0D 0A" as search phrase and an empty replacement. After running t...
