Re: Open source

You might want to get in touch with Romain Petges who converted his "Attribute Changer" from Delphi to FreePascal, and it doesn't look one bit different.

Re: how to search and replace in multiple opened files?

This is one feature I'd also love to see, although having just finished editing sixty DOS .COM files, I'm not sure when I would need it again.

Upgrade from 1.7.7.0 to 2.4

Being a great fan of the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it rule", I'm still using HxD 1.7.7.0, installed in "C:\Program Files (x86)\HxD", and it does everything it needs to do, which for me isn't that much, I almost exclusively use it to edit IBM z/OS created XMIT files (encoded i...

Confusing file compare when A is in B but B is longer than A

Comparing two files, result, a pop-up with:

"The chosen files are identical. The file sizes are different, though!"

Oops...

Files are two text files, one ends with an extra CR/LF/EOF (x0D0A1A) sequence...

Re: Separating text with empty bytes

Doesn't saving the text in Unicode do this all by itself???? Even that Microsoft joke called Notepad can do it.

Add command line switches

Could you consider adding command line switches to set the character set, bytes per line, etc, to enable several shortcuts to HxD in the "Send To" folder to be used to display the data in various formats, independent of what the user has in HxD.ini. For 99% of the time, I use HxD in EBCDIC...

Fixed: Accessing the forum

Re: HEX change and replace

There will be support for regex in future version, see other feature requests in this forum. It's not regex I'm after, its really hex+ASCII, which is used to work on Pascal strings and certain EBCDIC in files I work with, and where I need to change both the length and content of the string, includi...

HEX change and replace

Can you look into making the option more user-friendly by allowing the specification of mixed strings, i.e. something like 'hh hh hh hh'x+'ASCII' (where the '+' is a user specifiable character) would be even more useful.

Re: Corrupted hex-view with more than 64 bytes per row

I can confirm this. Problem starts when the width exceeds 53 bytes, 53 is OK, 54 results in 'overlaid' characters.

Re: Backup files have modified timestamps

There are several technical reasons why I can't rename the file. But I'm copying it such that all the meta-data is kept (alternate data streams, security settings, ...) and set the file timestamps of the backup file to the timestamps of the original file. As someone who is not at all in the know ab...

Re: Backup files have modified timestamps

The easiest way would be to just rename the original file. It would preserve all the original timestamps and a subsequent deletion of the modified file followed by a rename of the .BAK file to the original name would completely restore the original situation. Also, by using a new creation time, you ...

Fixed: Backup files have modified timestamps

Just found this program, if only commercial software was of the same quality. That said, I do do have an issue with it... When I select the option to create a backup file, I would expect this to be created by a rename of the original file on disk, but HxD actually performs a copy. In itself this wou...
