Not a bug: Setup of 2.0 fails because Symantec

Post by duselguy »

Hello,
thank you for the program (1.7.7.0).
The installation of 2.0 fails because of the Symantec:
“””A RISK HAS BEEN DETECTED”””
Please go to the site below for directions on how to address the alert.
Security risk detected: WS.Reputation.1
Action taken: Quarantine succeeded : Access denied
Thanks,
LP

Unfortunately, there is nothing I can do about that.
This just means that the file is less known to Symantec's users. The more users encounter it, who have Symantec software installed, the higher the score raises.
It's not a useful measure.

If you complain to Symantec about it, as a customer, it may help.
See here, for example: https://github.com/neovim/neovim/issues/6752

(They mention signing as a solution, but this does not change Symantec's behavior, as other threads you can find on the Internet show.)

Or you can disable this "metric" in the options of your virus scanner.
