Paste/Write Hex (not characters)

Post by Lexden »

Hi, I just started using HxD and I was trying to use it to overwrite existing hex with hex that I generated. The problem is that when I try to overwrite it with ctrl+b, it overwrites it assuming that I pasted characters so I see the data in the "decoded text" column, but the actual hex is then the hex of that "decoded text". Is there a way to write hex rather than characters? Thanks!

If you paste data in the hex column, the characters in the clipboard will be interpreted like a sequence of bytes (one hex pair per byte).

If you paste data in the text column, it will be pasted as is.

Does that solve your problem?

Thank you for the quick reply! Somehow I must have not been writing/pasting in the hex column even though I thought I was. Works just fine now. Thank you for the great editor!
