Problem changing dynamic to active - and HxD no longer sees ANY of my HDD!!!

So last week I tried the 42-to-07 swap on a pair of discs there were once in a mirror in a prior system (that I had broken some time ago), and while I did get the discs from dynamic to active, HxD did not revert the discs back to NTFS, but RAW status. These discs contain all of my data from 1997 until now, so I tried a few things but got very frustrated, so I took a break.

Now I am trying to get up and running again, but now when I fire up HxD, the application does not see ANY of my hard drives - not just the ones from the broken mirror, but also Disc 0 and Disc 1, my new computer's boot and data discs, respectively. Win7's Disk Manager sees all four discs, but HxD only sees only a CD (logical disc) in the optical drive (physical disc).

What's going on? HELP!!!

I am sorry, I didn't see your post.

The most likely reason why you wouldn't see the physical disks is that HxD was not started as administrator. Maybe you forgot to do that in the rush?

Regarding getting your data back. I strongly suggest to make a backup copy of your disk and avoid writing anything to it before you did. You can also use a tool such as dd to make an image of your drive: http://www.chrysocome.net/dd

TestDisk is a tool to recover your data, and there are many other recovery tools, such as Recuva. I can't vouch for any of them as my experience with them is limited. But as a general rule: backup your data before you use any of them! Just get an external USB drive and save an image of the 1997 drive there.

P.S.: I keep getting questions related to this "trick". Could you please notify the people/site who published it that this may cause trouble?
