Sorry, I have no date when the next one will be out. There will be a new version, though.

Surely you've got something by now? HxD is starting to feel outdated, and with no other good free hex editors (even open-source ones) out there, it's really starting to take a toll on me. I'm a software developer myself, so I understand just how time consuming it can be for these sort of things. If you need help beta testing anything, we're patiently waiting to help you :P

Also, have you ever considered making HxD open-source? I've always wanted to try messing around with a custom hex editor (I have a lot of ideas!) but even to this day, nothing beats HxD.

Hope all has been well with you! Life is important too, haha.

I have been a long-time fan and user of HxD, but there are certain things I do want to see fixed or improved. After browsing the forum it sounds as if at least some of those have already been fixed or implemented in an internal development version, but so far this seems to be a mythical beast. (It's quite cruel I must say for those who were told years ago that their requests had been fulfilled and to wait for the next version.) Closest thing I could find was a buggy incomplete German alpha version that's also quite old now. Given that more than six and a half years have passed since the last version was released, I think it's safe to say that development is well and truly dead due to the developer's lack of time to devote to this bit of wonderful freeware. Please note that I am not blaming him. On the contrary I can clearly see what an investment it is to work on software and make it available for free, and so for what we have I am truly grateful. If it was possible I'd be happy to donate specifically towards a time-bound release of the next version, but I don't see anything that tells me this would be a viable proposition for the developer. Oh well, it was good while it lasted and at least the last version still does lots of things amazingly well. Just wish there was more, because a 64-bit release with the data inspector and numerous other fixes and new features sounds so amazing... This is why I strongly feel more developers should open source their programs when they are no longer able to maintain them, but I don't see that happening here either given certain previous responses from the developer. Too bad. :(

Here is a current alpha version you can try if you want to test (as this is an alpha version it has known bugs and it is in German): http://mh-nexus.de/downloads/HxDalpha.zip

Very very nice HexaEditor, thanks for the good work.
The GUI is well polished, i can feel how love you'd put on it.
This is becoming my main hexa tool.
