Fixed: HxD: Access violation when using file compare
Fixed: HxD: Access violation when using file compare
I got such error in File Compare:
at 004089CE in module HxD.exe . Read of Address 7FE80000
Furthermore, it's also weird that if I click somewhere in on the file, the whole compare is after that "out of sync"
Thanks

Re: Error in File Compare
I could not reproduce it, please tell me the single steps. (Did you use the Windows context menu, opened the files directly, how many of them, in which order). Thanks.Schtrudel wrote:I got such error in File Compare:

If "out of sync" means that when you click somewhere in the window, the compare continues where you clicked, then this is expected behavior. There will be a results window in future, so you can change the caret-positioning without it affecting the compare.Schtrudel wrote: Furthermore, it's also weird that if I click somewhere in on the file, the whole compare is after that "out of sync"
To reproduce the problem, I opened to almost equal files (by regular Open icon on HxD). The files are exe files, one of them the "patched" version of the second; 2.7MB. I compared them, and I began moving along back and forth over the changes with F6 and Shift-F6. Most of the times on the "borders" (first and last change) I got the error, but was able to continue working on the files after closing the errors.
Okay, this fixed the problem with the example files (you sent me), and it very likely should fix the problems with the files you used.
You can get the (German) development version that includes the fix here:
http://mh-nexus.de/downloads/HxD.zip
Could you please confirm it works with your "original" files, too?
Thanks,
Maël.
