What always annoys me about hex editors is that they cannot open .lnk files, instead they always open the target file.
I once found a hex editor that could open .lnk files directly but I can't remember the name.
I just tested Hex Workshop, WinHex, UltraEdit and Hiew (doesn't even show the files) and they all can't open the direct file.
Would be nice if HxD directly opens .lnk files or if there is another dialog that asks if you want to open the source or the target file.
Feature request: Open and edit LNK (.lnk) files
Feature request: Open SYMLINKD & JUNCTION files
Sorry, I just noticed that HxD can indeed open .lnk files as these 3 pages describe:
https://www.howtogeek.com/190897/how-ca ... cut-files/
https://datei.wiki/extension/lnk
https://superuser.com/questions/766602/ ... -windows-7
But what I actually meant was opening symbolic links and junctions:
I guess this is a little bit harder via the open file dialog as they are treated like folders?
