Version 1.7.6.3 (install) running on Windows XP (SP2)
run HxD
File->open
Choose a file in the window that pops up and click OK
Got the message: "File not found"
Change the file name to not have an extention (i.e. "example.txt" to "example")
Opening the new file works fine!
Regards,
/Hossein
P.S. I used Cygwin to change the file names to not having an extention.
Fixed: HxD: Can't open any file that has name with extention
Re: HxD: Can't open any file that has name with extention
Thanks for the report.
There have been similar bug reports due to addition of ADS (alternate data stream) support for the filename syntax in the open file window. So special filenames confuse the system. I'm working on a fix.
Just to be sure this is not an unrelated issue, could you check if other apps open this file fine (the file which didn't open correctly in HxD)?

Don't know if this is fixed already...just saw your question sorry for the late reply:
