Instead of having just "HxD" in the right click context menu, add an additional option and label them as follows:

1. Edit with HxD
2. View with HxD

In HxD itself, include options of which of those 2 to show (1 or both) and which is the default for unassociated files and top-most under the default action for associated file types.

Maybe not with unassociated files (is that possible?) but make it the top-most context menu item.

Making the context menu the top most isn't possible AFAIK. The non default context menu items are sorted alphabetically.

If you have a context menu for all files, it necessarily shows also for unassociated files. The other solution would be to register HxD for each and every file extension separately...

I added a "Open with HxD" and "Open with HxD" (readonly).
