Being a great fan of the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it rule", I'm still using HxD 1.7.7.0, installed in "C:\Program Files (x86)\HxD", and it does everything it needs to do, which for me isn't that much, I almost exclusively use it to edit IBM z/OS created XMIT files (encoded in EBCDIC), and occasionally I use it to insert spaces between consecutive CR/LF's when they've been stripped by the editor I normally use.

So simple question, what would be the advantages of going to 2.4, and what would be the best way? Install or portable?

The change log lists all the relevant changes since, version 1.7.7.0.

The installable version has the advantage that you can integrate it in the context menu.
